Irish Summer School 2014

The second Irish Music Summer School went really well.

A perfect combination of (mostly) good weather, excellent tutors and great students made for a smooth mix.

Two teachers came over from Ireland, Brian O’Sullivan (who gave the drama class) and Triona Byrne (tin whistle tutor). Claire Fitzpatrick – who is on holidays in Luxembourg from her job in Cairo – managed the step dancing and Cliodhna Dempsey gave the singing classes. We are very grateful to the energy and enthusiasm that the teachers brought.

The idea behind the school was to provide a taste of Irish music and culture similar to what they might have if they were in school in Ireland. There were 33 students reflecting the mix of Irish with other nationalities in Luxembourg and there were quite a few that had no direct Irish connection which was also a very positive sign.

The Wort.lu sent a reporter to cover the school and had a piece with pictures that capture the spirit of the school – see link
